Khaberni - The Jordanian permanent representative to the Human Rights Council, Akram Al-Harashah, confirmed on Tuesday that the "horrifying atrocities and heinous crimes" witnessed in Palestinian territories demand "decisive actions and unshakeable condemnation."
During his speech in the general debate of the Council on "the human rights situation in Palestine and other occupied Arab territories" in Geneva, he emphasized that addressing these violations is a "moral testament" as well as a legal obligation.
Al-Harashah pointed out that the recent findings of the investigation committee unequivocally confirm the crime of genocide, drawing attention to the fact that the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights has revealed an updated list of companies complicit in the Israeli settlements, which exposes "systematic violations" that trample international law, human dignity, and "the collective conscience."
He stressed the fundamental responsibility of the Human Rights Council to protect the rights of the Palestinian people under occupation, and to protect the innocent in Gaza, the West Bank, and occupied Jerusalem, highlighting the necessity for a "decisive stance now."
He explained that the Council had listened to a briefing by the Deputy High Commissioner on Monday regarding an update on the list of companies operating in the settlements, affirming that these documents and others reveal the "disastrous actions of the occupation government," and that addressing them is "not just a legal commitment, but a moral duty" that compels nations to take decisive steps to stop the violations and hold the perpetrators accountable, and to reject the plans of annexing the West Bank.
In conclusion, Al-Harashah called on the international community to "mobilize with unwavering determination" to eradicate these atrocities and ensure that every perpetrator faces justice swiftly and resolutely. He reaffirmed that achieving the full rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to statehood, is key to regional stability and security, and that Jordan is fully committed to achieving this urgent goal.
