According to the official announcement by the company on Monday, the new feature is initially available to users within the United States only, where they will be able to browse and purchase products from registered sellers on the "Shopify" and **"Etsy"** platforms.
How does the new feature work?
The new feature acts as an integrated and intelligent shopping agent. For example, a user can simply write a request like: "Find me the best running shoes for under $100". ChatGPT then searches and displays the products that best match in terms of price and quality.
If the product supports the feature of instant payment via the smart commerce protocol, a "Buy" button will appear next to it. With a single click, the user can confirm the order, review the shipping details, and complete the payment securely entirely within the conversation, where the robot acts as a trusted intermediary for transferring information between the buyer and the seller.
OpenAI clarified that the current feature supports purchasing only one product at a time, but it confirmed that work is ongoing to expand it to include a "full shopping cart".
The cost and impact on the market
The company indicated that the service will remain completely free for users, and it will not affect the prices of the displayed products.
Conversely, merchants will pay nominal fees on purchase transactions made through the platform, opening up a new revenue channel for the leading company in artificial intelligence.
