Khaberni - The city of Nawa in rural Daraa witnessed a medical alert today, Tuesday, following the arrival of dozens of people at the national hospital suffering from poisoning cases.
A correspondent for Syria TV reported that about 50 poisoning cases reached Nawa National Hospital, amid reports suggesting the possibility of sewage water leaking into the water pipes coming from the main supply line to the neighborhoods.
The hospital director, Aqla Al-Hanafi, told the Syria TV website that the cases were distributed across several districts in the city of Nawa, with symptoms being moderate and non-severe, limited to vomiting and diarrhea.
He confirmed that most of the patients' health conditions stabilized after receiving necessary medical care including medications, serums, and antibiotics.
He mentioned that the hospital lacks the necessary laboratory capabilities to analyze water or identify the germ causing the poisoning, adding that there is still speculation among the residents about the source of the pollution, with some suspecting drinking water, while others believe it is related to contaminated food items.
