Khaberni - The Paris Prosecutor's Office announced today, Tuesday, the discovery of the South African Ambassador to France, Nathi Mthethwa, deceased outside a hotel in Paris, while sources familiar with the case suspected the death was due to suicide, based on several indicators.

According to one of these sources, the 58-year-old ambassador was suffering from depression, and it is suspected that he might have committed suicide.

The Prosecutor's Office stated that the ambassador, whose full name is Nkosinathi Emmanuel Nathi Mthethwa, "had booked a room on the 22nd floor, the window of which had been forcefully pried open."

It was explained that Mthethwa, a close friend of former South African president Jacob Zuma, "was found at the bottom of the hotel," indicating that a standby judge visited the scene of the incident.

Mthethwa's wife reported him missing on Monday, noting that she "received a disturbing message from him that evening," according to the Prosecutor's Office. The investigation was assigned to the unit specializing in crimes against individuals.

The French prosecution confirmed today, Tuesday, that the South African ambassador to Paris was found dead next to the Hyatt hotel.

The newspapers "Le Parisien" and "Le Figaro" reported earlier today that the ambassador was found dead at the base of the Hyatt hotel, a towering building in Porte Maillot, west Paris.

The embassy's website states that the ambassador, Nkosinathi Emmanuel (Nathi) Mthethwa, served as South Africa's Minister of Arts and Culture between 2014 and 2019, and the Ministry of Sports was added to his portfolio between 2019 and 2023.

"Le Parisien" reported that the ambassador's wife reported his disappearance after receiving a text message from him that raised her concerns.
