Khaberni - The number of party members in the twentieth House of Representatives has risen to 124 out of 138 deputies, some of whom were partisans before entering the dome and others who joined after winning the elections, bringing the percentage of partisans in the council to 89%, according to Ahmad Abu Zaid, Secretary-General of the Party Registry in the Independent Election Commission.

The percentage of party deputies has increased by 19% during the current period compared to the period after the elections which resulted in 104 party deputies, out of 138 deputies.

The number of licensed parties in the Jordanian political arena has reached 36 parties, while the number of parties (under establishment) is two, and two parties have their requests being considered by the authority, according to Abu Zaid.

9 parties on the way to merger

The parties "Progress" and "Will" have met the merger conditions under the presence and supervision of the authority, while the latter is waiting for the party to deliver the merger decision, which will be named "Initiative" Party, according to Abu Zaid.

The parties "Nama" and "Al-Ansar" are studying their merger decision, as the general assembly of both parties will meet on October 12 to finalize the decision, according to Abu Zaid.

Separately, rumours about understandings for the merger of 5 parties under one party umbrella emerge, yet no date has been set for the consensus meeting.

The judiciary is considering dissolving two parties that violated the provisions of the law

Since the enforcement of the Party Law and the stage of political update, one party, "Vision", was dissolved by an order issued by the Amman Court of First Instance's Rights, after the authority filed a complaint accusing the party of violating the provisions of the Party Law pursuant to Article 33.

The Secretary-General of the Party Registry revealed that the authority has raised two complaints against two existing parties and has filed a lawsuit to dissolve them for violating the legal provisions, as the judiciary is still looking into their case.

11 parties, whose candidates progressed to the parliamentary dome and surpassed the vote cutoff percentage (threshold), obtained 30 thousand Dinars for the party and 10 thousand for each deputy who passed on the general list ticket.

The winner from the party and the candidate nominated under its local list name receives 10 thousand Dinars, provided that the party discloses its partisan candidacy before the elections, while an additional 20% is added to the mentioned amount for every winner from the categories of women, youth, and people with disabilities.

On the other hand, 7 parties that surpassed half of the cutoff percentage (threshold) and did not gain party seats in the parliament, received financial support estimated at 30 thousand Dinars each.

And the parties that received 30 thousand for surpassing half the threshold are (National Construction, National Loyalty, National Development, Communist Party, Construction and Labor, Civil Democratic Party and Social Democratic Party equally).

Abu Zaid confirmed that the authority disbursed the first phase of those contributions at the start of the current year, and the second in its mid.

It is noted that the financial contributions due to the parties continue to be disbursed annually and end upon the elections following the elections for which the support was granted, indicating that the maximum benefit from the financial contribution is 120 thousand regardless of how many seats the party obtained.

Abu Zaid: Defining the political identity of the party is not the responsibility of the authority

Regarding the clarification of the ideological identities and political colors of the licensed parties, Abu Zaid said that the authority deals with the parties according to the provisions of the law, regardless of their political identity.

Abu Zaid confirmed that defining the identity and political color of the party is the responsibility of the party and research and study centers, explaining that the authority is not responsible for that.

86,000 partisans in Jordan

The number of Jordanians affiliated with parties according to the party clock reached 86,091 until September 30, 56.7% of them males and 43.2% females, while the percentage of youth among party affiliates reached 36.7%, 42.7% of them young women.

According to the Party Registry Secretary, the percentage of women in leadership positions within the parties has reached 18%.

Applying standards of good governance

Abu Zaid confirmed that the authority, through promotional and training programs for parties, enhances the political capacities of its affiliates, as the Party Registry provides everything necessary for the parties to perform their work.

Through the Party Registry, the authority offers training programs on campaign management, youth leadership training, programs to enhance the role of women within parties, and programs to develop communication skills, public speaking, and eloquence.

Moreover, through the Party Registry, the authority works on transferring party experiences and exchanging expertise with global parties, the latest of which are three Dutch parties with different political colors, revising with local parties their constitutions.

Abu Zaid confirmed that the authority is reviewing 15 drafts of the parties' constitutions, as part of their review after the elections, aiming to achieve the standards of good governance within the parties.
