Khaberni - Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Hospital in Aqaba has recently launched a service for treating patients from the deaf and mute community through the visual communication application (sign book) specialized in real-time translation in sign language via the internet.
The hospital director, Dr. Mohammad Kreshan told the Jordan News Agency (Petra), that this service was part of an agreement recently signed with the Guide Book Company, which specializes in sign language for the deaf and mute.
He added that the launch of this idea is in line with the Ministry of Health's plan which focuses on providing optimal services for visitors and improving the quality of healthcare with high efficiency, in addition to harnessing technological developments to serve all segments of society.
He explained that the service mechanism starts once a deaf or mute patient enters the hospital and photographs the "barcode", the identifying code of the company installed at the wall of the patient reception door.
Dr. Kreshan pointed out that after the patient photographs the identification code, the website directly connects with sign language specialists for the deaf and mute through a live broadcast, to be a link between the patient and the medical staff and all the departments the patient needs to interact with, such as emergency, radiology, and medical records.
He emphasized that this service is available to visitors 24 hours a day, seven days a week, noting that the hospital will soon witness developments with the addition of new doctors for newborns and the opening of new departments.
