Khaberni - Afghanistan released American citizen Amir Amiri in the framework of Qatar's mediation, who arrived in Doha, this Sunday evening, accompanied by American and Qatari officials. Washington and Kabul expressed their thanks to Doha for its diplomatic efforts.
The American envoy Adam Boehler - who accompanied Amiri to the Qatari capital - stated in exclusive remarks to Al Jazeera that his country is working with Kabul and Doha to release four other detainees in Afghanistan.
The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs mentioned in a statement that Amiri will later depart to the United States.
State Minister at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mohammad bin Abdulaziz Al Khalifi, in a statement to the Qatari News Agency (QNA), expressed Qatar's appreciation for "the productive cooperation shown by both the Afghan caretaker government and the United States, emphasizing that Qatar always strives to activate mediation efforts to find peaceful solutions to conflicts and complex international issues."
Al Khalifi added that this step "represents an important incentive to encourage direct dialogue and enhance communication channels between the parties."
U.S. Secretary of State Mark Rubio expressed "sincere gratitude for Qatar's highly significant diplomatic efforts to release the American citizen."
