Khaberni -The Minister of Transport, Engineer Wissam Al-Tahatmoni, held a comprehensive meeting with the Minister Plenipotentiary at the Arab League for Transport and Tourism Affairs, Dr. Bahjat Abu Al-Nasr, which included the presence of the President of the Arab Union for Land Transport, former Minister Malik Haddad, and the Director of the Middle East and North Africa Division at the International Road Transport Union, Rami Al-Qarout.
The meeting was also attended by the General Director of the Land Transport Regulatory Authority, Engineer Riyadh Al-Kharabsheh, the General Director of JETT Company, Dr. Khaled Al-Lahham, the Training Director at the Royal Automobile Club, Engineer Mazen Nour Al-Din, and the Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab Union for Land Transport, Essam Al-Majali.
The discussion centered around mechanisms to enhance joint Arab cooperation in the field of land transport and facilitating its movement across borders, through continuous coordination between the Arab Union for Land Transport, the International Road Transport Union, and the Arab League.
Minister Al-Tahatmoni welcomed the attendees, expressing her appreciation for the efforts of the Arab Union for Land Transport, and praised the positive outcomes achieved and the noticeable technological transition that has effectively facilitated trade and transport between countries.
Al-Tahatmoni confirmed that all topics raised by the attendees were of importance, especially concerning the transportation of hazardous materials, insurance, and the Arab passage logbook to facilitate trade exchange, in addition to linking electronic systems between the Union and the Arab countries, the customs transit logbook, and the tachograph system on trucks to facilitate entry into Turkey and European countries.
During the meeting, the Minister was briefed on the content of meetings held at the headquarters of the Arab Union for Land Transport, which also discussed the adoption of the Union’s electronic application to become an officially accredited platform for activating the Arab electronic passage logbook, and enhancing the training programs to obtain the professional competence certificate accredited by the International Union.
For his part, President of the Arab Union for Land Transport Malik Haddad confirmed that a recent meeting held at the headquarters of the Arab Union for Land Transport discussed a set of core topics aimed at enhancing joint Arab transport and raising the level of trade, especially with Syria returning to the Arab working system, and reactivating transport lines to Turkey, which will reflect economically positively on Jordan and the Arab countries, contributing to reducing time and effort costs.
The Minister Plenipotentiary Dr. Bahjat Abu Al-Nasr expressed his thanks to the Ministry of Transport for its cooperation and ongoing support, stating that the discussions raised vital issues requiring more joint coordination, and that implementing these proposals and linking platforms electronically will save significant financial costs for the member countries and enhance the fluidity of transport and trade, emphasizing the importance of standardizing weights approved among Arab countries.
Director of the Middle East and North Africa Division at the International Road Transport Union Rami Al-Qarout also emphasized the need to continue cooperation and intensify coordination between the concerned entities in the Arab countries, with the aim of harmonizing procedures and enhancing the efficiency of land transport, noting that the International Union is ready to provide the necessary technical and technological support to Arab countries to facilitate the implementation of modern solutions in transport.
In the context of enhancing cooperation with national institutions, the delegation also visited the Royal Jordanian Automobile Club, where an extensive meeting was held with its General Director Khaldoun Allawi, in the presence of the Chairman of the Board Walid Saleh Zaki, and the Head of the Technical Department Mazen Nour Al-Din. During the meeting, the possibility of accrediting the club as an approved regional training center for qualifying Arab land transport personnel was discussed, as well as transforming it into an Arab academy for training in the field of transport and traffic safety.
