Khaberni -Uber has announced the launch of its new service "Female Drivers" in Saudi Arabia, which allows female customers the ability to book rides driven only by female drivers, through the app.
This was announced during a special event organized by the company in Riyadh under the title "By Women, For Women," which also saw the launch of the first event for the "Gig Sister" program in Saudi Arabia, an initiative aimed at building a supportive community for female drivers.
The launch of the service coincides with the seventh anniversary of the decision that allowed women to drive cars in Saudi Arabia in 2018, while the new service is expected to begin rolling out gradually in major cities in Saudi Arabia in the coming weeks.
In the meantime, Yusuf Abu Saif, the General Manager of Uber in Saudi Arabia, said: "Women across Saudi Arabia have shown how mobility can open new doors of opportunities."
The new feature provides female customers the option to choose female drivers to execute the rides, either on-demand or through pre-booking, and the service appears in the app under the mini-list at prices similar to "Uber X", with the option of booking through the "Uber Reserve" feature for those who prefer planning ahead.
Uber was founded in 2010 and since then has entered a large number of countries worldwide, completing 58 billion trips. With applications like Careem, Jeeny, Bolt, and other delivery platforms, the company has contributed to reshaping the passenger transport sector within cities.
