FourYear Prison Sentence for Two Men Who Cut Down Famous Robin Hood Tree

Khaberni -Today, Tuesday, a sentence exceeding four years was issued against two men for felling the famous "Sycamore Gap" tree in England, known as the "Robin Hood Tree".

The tree had stood for nearly 150 years before Daniel Graham and Adam Carothers, in what one public prosecutor described as a "foolish act," cut down the tree at midnight, causing it to fall on Hadrian's Wall, one of England's ancient landmarks.

Both Graham (39 years old) and Carothers (32 years old) were convicted of two charges of criminal damage; one for the destruction of the tree, and the other for damaging the ancient wall.

Judge Christina Lambert sentenced the two men to four years and three months imprisonment during the session held in a Newcastle court.

It is noted that the tree, which stood between two hills, was known to the locals for its scenic beauty, but it gained international fame after it appeared in the 1991 film "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves," starring American actor Kevin Costner.

Since then, the tree has attracted tourists and lovers of landscape photography, and was selected as England's "Tree of the Year" in 2016.
