The First Statement from Carreras After Signing with Real Madrid

Khaberni -Alvaro Carreras, Real Madrid's left-back, confirmed on Tuesday during his official presentation as a player for the royal team, that he "does not care about numbers" and said he felt comfortable when asked at the press conference about the amount the royal club paid to Benfica (50 million euros).

This figure makes him the second most expensive defender in the history of the club, after Dean Hoysen (59 million euros) and equal with Eder Militao.
The details of the financial agreement with Benfica, which were officially announced in front of the Securities Market Committee on Monday, were also revealed.

Carreras confirmed that he is only focused on working to achieve success at Real Madrid.

He said: "I don't focus on that (the financial amounts). I am completely confident in what I am and what I can offer. I am not interested in the numbers, I am comfortable. Football today moves all that."

He also explained how his transfer to Real Madrid took place and said it was "long" because "in football there is always a lot of talk". He clarified that during this entire process he was focused on playing for Benfica at the highest level possible.

He mentioned: "We had a World Cup challenge. It didn’t go as we expected and now I close one door to open a giant one. I am excited to face a season that will be fantastic for everyone."

He said: "I was totally focused on Benfica. I had the World Cup, a project we had prepared well. We did not end the season as we would have liked. That's what happened. Until the last day, I didn't know anything until everything became official. I'm happy to be in Madrid and very excited."

He added: "This is a dream come true. Coming back to my home. I have incredible experiences. Very excited to face the challenges and looking forward to starting."

When asked if Brazilians Roberto Carlos and Marcelo Vieira were his role models when he was a child playing in the youth categories of Real Madrid, he was clear and answered yes.

He said: "Both have been my inspiration for many years. I spent three years and managed to see Marcelo directly. And I was with Roberto and it was very good. Both are role models for me."

About Angel Di Maria, who he shared the locker room with at Benfica, he said he spoke to him about Real Madrid (the Argentine's former team) and praised the world champion in kind words.

He said: "I find no words to describe him. He was a great companion inside and outside the field. He supported me and respected me. I am grateful to him forever and wish him good luck in his new phase, which will be very good for him."

He also acknowledged that he had already spoken with Xabi Alonso, who wished him good luck and congratulated him on signing for Real Madrid: "I will play in any required position. I'll be there. I'll do my utmost for this shirt."
