Shocking study Exposure to high levels of this element increases forgetfulness in children

Khaberni -A scientific study conducted in the United States has proven that exposure to high levels of lead leads to increased forgetfulness in children.

In the framework of the study published by the scientific journal Science Advances, which focuses on scientific research, researcher Catherine Svenson from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York studied the effect of lead exposure on fetuses and children in the early stages of life.

The research team measured lead levels in the blood in fetuses as well as children aged between four to six years, studying the effect of this metal's presence on the child's ability to remember at the age of six to eight years old, through the "Delayed Matching to Sample" (DMTS) test, a research method used to study working memory and other cognitive abilities.

This test involves showing a "sample" to the volunteer, then asking them to select the matching item from a range of options after a delay, and the researchers found that increased lead in the blood leads to increased forgetfulness in children.

The researchers wrote that "from a public health perspective, these findings highlight the importance of intervention to reduce lead exposure rates in children," and added, as stated by the online site "Health Day" specialized in scientific research, that "reducing lead exposure levels in the environment through certain food items and paints in homes and pipes is of great importance, as even minimal levels of this material can lead to serious effects on cognitive functions and their development in children."
