Khaberni -Judge Tareq Abu Tayeh from the Directorate of Reform, Mediation, and Family Conciliation said on Monday that the reform rate in cases referred from Sharia courts to some family reform offices has reached 80%.

Abu Tayeh clarified, through "Al-Mamlaka" that the directorate oversees 30 family reform offices.

He added that the primary role of family reform offices is preventive, before a problem occurs, through offices spread throughout Jordan, including two offices in the Zaatari and Azraq camps which are specialized for Syrian refugees, and these offices monitor cases, and offer advice, guidance, and counseling to everyone visiting the offices.

He mentioned that there were 32,000 free consultations offered to couples last year, by specialists in the field of family and counseling, as well as in psychology, law, Sharia, and all disciplines relevant to family reform offices.

He explained that there are 400 family mediators spread across the kingdom whose duty is preventive, and then the family reform offices take on a therapeutic role to resolve occurring family disputes.

He confirmed that there were 9,400 cases where divorce was averted, and more than 39,000 cases where binding and unchallengeable family reform agreements were organized, because they were made with the consensus of the parties and came into effect from the execution courts.

In turn, Judge Majed Al-Jabour, inspector of the Sharia courts in the department of the Chief Justice said that the annual report index of the Sharia courts gives a positive impression of what the Chief Justice’s department is doing.

He clarified that the age group most prevalent for males is from 30 to 40; whereas for females, the age group with the most marriages is from 21 to 25 years.

He added that the age groups with the highest divorce rates for males are over 40 years old, and for females from 30 to 40 years old.
