Khaberni -Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met on Sunday evening with former British Prime Minister and former envoy of the International Quartet Tony Blair at his residence in the capital, Amman.
The meeting discussed the latest developments in the Palestinian territories, ongoing political and humanitarian developments, with President Abbas emphasizing the need to reach an immediate ceasefire, the release of all detainees and prisoners, and ensuring the unimpeded delivery of urgent humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
He emphasized that the only viable solution is the full withdrawal of Israel from the Gaza Strip and enabling the State of Palestine to take full responsibility for the sector, with effective Arab and international support. He indicated that “Hamas movement will not govern the Gaza Strip the following day,” and that the movement must hand over its weapons to the Palestinian Authority and engage in political activity through adherence to the political program of the Palestine Liberation Organization, its international program, international legitimacy, and the principles of one regime, one law, and one legitimate weapon.
Abbas also stressed the necessity of stopping all unilateral actions, especially settlement expansion, rejecting annexation, and stopping repeated assaults on Islamic and Christian holy sites, emphasizing the importance of launching a serious political process to implement the two-state solution, based on international legitimacy resolutions, the Arab Peace Initiative, and through holding an international peace conference in New York.
At the end of the meeting, an agreement was made to continue work and coordination and to hold meetings among the concerned parties to stop the war and achieve security, stability, and peace for everyone in the region.
