Khaberni -Citizens have complained about the ongoing complete outage of streetlights for about five months on a vital section of the Irbid–Amman road, specifically from the signal at Husn Camp to the Nuaimeh Bridge, stating that the pitch darkness at night poses a direct threat to public safety.

The Irbid Governorate Public Works Directorate attributed the outage to repeated tampering with the underground feeder cables, noting that efforts are underway to restore the lighting as soon as possible.

Citizens Saeb Mughayerah, Fandi Joyaid, and Hussein Al-Saud, on Sunday, said that the lighting outage on this part of the road, which is over two kilometers long, exposes drivers and pedestrians to real dangers, especially since it is one of the most heavily used roads in the area and experiences dense daily traffic.

They drew attention to how the darkness turns the road into a completely dark area in the evening hours, increasing the chances of traffic accidents due to poor visibility, emphasizing that restoring lighting has become an urgent necessity to ensure the safety of the road users.

Meanwhile, Abdullah Athamneh, the head of the Lighting and Traffic Department at Bani Obeid Municipality, clarified that the street lamps on this part of the road fall under the responsibility of the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, indicating that the municipality has formally addressed the Irbid Public Works Directorate to find a quick solution to the problem given the road's importance.

Athamneh confirmed that the municipality is closely monitoring the issue and awaiting urgent action from the relevant authorities, especially since the road is considered international and experiences high nighttime traffic density.

In turn, Maen Al-Rabadi, the Director of Public Works in Irbid Governorate, confirmed that the main reason behind the power outage at the streetlight poles is the tampering with the underground feeder cables, noting that the directorate has sent communications to the ministry to provide the site with new cables and to restore the electrical system as soon as possible.

Al-Rabadi added that the ministry is currently considering adopting new technical and engineering solutions to reduce the phenomenon of tampering with cables, which causes significant financial damage and frequent disruption to lighting networks on vital roads in the kingdom.
