Khaberni -The United Nations World Food Programme in Jordan welcomed a new contribution valued at $7.43 million from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office to support the food aid program for refugees in camps and host communities throughout the kingdom.
This contribution is the second from the United Kingdom to the World Food Programme in Jordan this year, following an allocation of $5.16 million earlier in the year 2025, which helped the program to avoid reducing aid to thousands of the most vulnerable refugees.
The Country Director and Resident Representative of the World Food Programme in Jordan, Alberto Correa Mendez, stated that this renewed support from the United Kingdom comes at a critical moment and reflects the UK's ongoing commitment to humanitarian efforts in Jordan.
He pointed out that the funding will enable the World Food Programme to continue supporting the most vulnerable families, especially during this difficult period when the program and its other partners in refugee response face a funding shortage that limits their collective ability to meet the needs of those most in need of assistance.
The World Food Programme still urgently needs $24 million to continue providing reduced monthly cash aid until the end of the year and to prevent further reductions in aid provided to refugees living in camps and host communities.
The World Food Programme currently provides cash assistance to 280,000 refugees in Jordan to meet their basic food needs, with Syrian refugees making up the vast majority of them.
Due to the continued lack of funding, the program was forced in July 2023 to reduce the value of monthly cash assistance by a third, from 23 dinars to 15 dinars per person.
