Khaberni -Tell me - The New Egypt Misdemeanor Court today (Saturday) issued a one-year imprisonment sentence, with labor and enforcement, against a company official and an installation technician, following the accident at the cultural event at the Baron Palace.
The incident dates back to April 26, when a cultural event scheduled to be a celebratory evening at the Baron Palace turned into a tragedy, as a huge lighting stand 4 meters high and 40 meters wide collapsed on the audience during a medical conference in the palace garden.
The accident resulted in 19 people being injured, ranging from minor to severe, with 8 of the injured transported to the hospital for treatment. According to a police emergency report, the Cairo Security Directorate was notified of the incident, prompting the security forces to immediately move to the scene to investigate and take the necessary legal measures.
The court confirmed that the investigations revealed blatant negligence in securing the stand, which led to its collapse under its own weight or other factors not yet detailed, and investigations are still ongoing to determine if other parties, including the event organizers or the palace management, are involved.
Baron Empain Palace, also known as the "Hindu Palace," is one of the most prominent archaeological landmarks in the Heliopolis district of Cairo, built between 1907 and 1911 by Baron Edward Empain, the Belgian businessman who founded the city of Heliopolis.
The palace, designed by French architect Alexandre Marcel, features a style inspired by Hindu temples and the Angkor Wat temple in Cambodia, and is distinguished by its unique decorations, including statues of elephants, snakes, and Buddha. The palace is considered a historical and cultural symbol in the country.
