Independence and the Deposit of the Arab Army
الكاتب: العميد الركن مصطفى الحياري

Khaberni -Independence is a supreme value in the mindset of the Arab Army, deeply rooted in its consciousness and within the essence of all its members; Independence was not a transient event or a mere chapter in the history of Jordan, but has always been a historical trust placed on the shoulders of the Jordanian Arab Army, which preserved it with sweat and blood, making it a symbol of dignity and a source of sovereignty. Since the inception of the state, the Jordanian soldier has been and remains at the core of the independence equation, not just as a military force but as a pivotal actor in establishing the pillars of national sovereignty and protecting the free Jordanian decision.
From the moment of its founding, the army took it upon itself to achieve independence, then to preserve and protect it. The decision-makers of the army saw the founding of the state as an opportunity to build an independent entity, and their practical steps on the ground were a genuine preparation for gaining that independence, represented by building and expanding the military institution to a high level of professionalism and expertise, worthy of preserving an independent and sovereign state. It was the political independence from the British mandate in 1946 and the establishment of the modern independent Jordanian state.
And here is the Arab Army continuing the journey of independence. Ten years after independence, His Majesty the late King Hussein bin Talal decided in 1956 to Arabize the leadership of the army and get rid of the presence of British officers. This step was a declaration that independence in Jordan was not just a disengagement from foreign guardianship but a continuous affirmation that sovereignty is not complete unless the national decision stems from a free popular will, supported by the strength of the army, and that independence is a supreme value continually present in the consciousness not only of the military but of all Jordanians.
Since that moment, the Jordanian Arab Army has remained a faithful guardian of independence, defending its soil, preserving its freedom, and maintaining its sovereignty in the face of challenges. Independence in the consciousness of the army is not just a fleeting honor or a title bestowed, but a permanent duty, a trust of the nation undertaken without hesitation, a covenant that accepts no compromise, manifested in every field through firm stances and decisive decisions, sealed by the soldier with his blood and affirmed by his steadfastness in performing duty, whatever the cost.
Just as independence is a trust of the Arab Army, so too this army itself is a trust of the Hashemites. Since its founding through independence and up to our times, the armed forces have significantly benefited from Hashemite care, passing through numerous stages of development and modernization that included all aspects of organization, armament, and training. They have managed to keep pace with advanced armies in these fields, reaching a high level of professionalism, efficiency, and excellence enabling them to perform their defensive, humanitarian, and development roles perfectly. With the noble efforts of the Hashemites, they have been able to extend a helping hand and support to anyone in need, both domestically and abroad, preserving their military values derived from the benign doctrine and principles of the Great Arab Revolt. Various units of the armed forces have been equipped with the latest in defense industry technology including weapons, equipment, and vehicles, ensuring enhanced combat capabilities in all conditions and times, including the latest aircraft, boats, tanks, and troop carriers according to the types and operational needs of the armed forces to effectively protect the nation and its achievements.

Independence is not a slogan for exploitation, but a continuing responsibility and vigour renewed every day at various workplaces, reflecting on individual behavior and the culture of the society as a whole. Independence is a responsibility on all of us to protect and preserve the achievements of this country.

On the seventy-ninth Independence Day, we renew our vow to keep Jordan strong in its leadership, united by its people, firm in its principles, and looking forward with confidence toward a better future. On this day, it is our duty to stand in respect for the sacrifices of our armed forces, and we raise our hands in prayer that God may protect our nation, safeguard our beloved King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein, and his trustworthy Crown Prince, His Majesty Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II, and continue to bless Jordan with the grace of independence, security, and stability.
