Khbarani - The United Nations announced the return of more than 1.5 million Syrian refugees and internally displaced persons to their areas since the fall of the Assad regime.
Aidem Wsorno, Director of Operations and Advocacy at the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, said last Friday: "16.5 million people in Syria need humanitarian aid and protection", confirming the continuation of humanitarian operations despite the increasing difficulties.
She added: "The United Nations and its partners reach an average of 2.4 million people per month through their local and cross-border operations."
She expressed hope that the lifting of US and European sanctions on Syria would facilitate the recovery and development process.
She continued: "More than one million displaced have returned to their areas, and more than half a million refugees have returned from neighboring countries to their homeland."
Recently, US President Donald Trump and the European Union announced the lifting of economic sanctions that were imposed on Syria during the presidency of the former president Bashar al-Assad.
