Tell me - After months of controversy and spending several months in prison on charges of stealing the jewelry of the artist Shalimar Sherbiny, the wife of director Khaled Youssef, the Egyptian authorities released director Omar Zohran, following the completion of his conditional release procedures.
The events leading up to Zohran's release included his transfer from Wadi Natrun Prison to Dokki Police Department to complete the procedures. This is the prison where he served half of his one-year sentence, following a court verdict in November.
In the final hours before Zohran's release, there was widespread controversy following accusations by advisor Mortada Mansour that the artist Basma Wahba caused his imprisonment again by violating the conditional release terms.
Mansour said that Basma Wahba spread the news of the release in a manner contrary to the law, in an attempt to "trend" and prove her early knowledge of case developments. He indicated that her posting a picture of her prostrating in thanks for the release decision, and stirring up controversy, led Shalimar Sherbiny to contact her acquaintances and protest against the release decision, which caused Omar Zohran to be imprisoned once again.
Meanwhile, Egyptian artist Hala Sedki expressed her joy at Omar Zohran's acquittal, saying via her Instagram account: "Congratulations to my friend and dear Omar Zohran, a thousand thanks for your safety, today is the first day I can sleep, open the windows of joy to all who love you".
Hala Sedki posted a picture with Omar Zohran, addressing him with a message: "You might not remember this picture, there were people with us, but they have been removed from our lives and lost," she continued. "What happened is an opportunity to know who is a friend and who is not loyal".
The threads of the case began about a year and a half ago, when Shalimar Sherbiny officially reported to the Giza Police Department that precious pieces of her gold jewelry were stolen, including a bracelet, a diamond ring, luxury watches from BG and Rolex brands, in addition to other ornaments.
