Al-Khabarani - The head of the National Cyber Security Council, Ahmad Hayasat, stated that Jordanian governmental and non-governmental organizations have faced 1688 cyber incidents since the beginning of this year until the beginning of May, noting that 78% of these incidents were of medium severity.
Hayasat explained in televised statements to Al-Mamlaka channel that cyber incidents are categorized into four levels: "severe, serious, medium, and low risk", pointing out that Jordan did not record any "severe" incidents neither last year nor since the start of this year.
He mentioned that "serious" incidents accounted for about 1% of the total incidents during the first third of the current year, while the larger percentage, 89%, were of low risk.
Hayasat indicated that some of the attacks come from countries aiming to gather vital information within the kingdom, without naming these countries, adding that there are also other groups that may conduct attacks to pursue their own interests or on behalf of international entities.
He affirmed that the reduction in the number of incidents and their severity is due to the efficiency of Jordanian institutions in providing necessary protection for digital infrastructure, emphasizing the importance of enhancing international cooperation in exchanging information about attacking cyber groups, which enables relevant authorities to be prepared for any potential threats and alert institutions vulnerable to attacks.
